Understanding that you are valued by those around you can have a positive impact on self-confidence and a sense of self-worth. It can bring about a sense of fulfillment as we, as social creatures, place importance on our connections with others. If you're interested in recognizing signs of someone's admiration for you, look no further. We had the opportunity to speak with Dr Elena Touroni, a consultant psychologist and co-founder of The Chelsea Psychology Clinic, who graciously shared her expertise on this topic.
1.) According to Dr Touroni, when someone is interested in you, they will take the initiative to start conversations and stay in touch. This shows a sincere interest in building a connection. From a psychological standpoint, frequent communication is a clear sign of investment in any type of relationship, whether it be friendship, work-related, or romantic.
2.) It's always heartwarming when someone recalls a little-known detail about you, even something you mentioned in passing. As Dr Touroni explains, this shows that the person is attentive and remembers things you've shared.
3.) According to Dr Touroni, individuals who have a positive opinion of you are often willing to provide help and support proactively. This assistance can take many forms, such as assisting with work projects or offering a sympathetic ear. They may even be readily available to babysit your children on a Friday night so that you can go on a second date, if they are a friend. This behavior stems from empathy and the desire to be viewed as trustworthy and compassionate, further emphasizing their dedication to your happiness.
4.) In today's hectic world, where balancing work, finances, social commitments and self-care is a constant struggle, time is a precious commodity. Therefore, when someone dedicates their time to you, it's a clear indication of their fondness for you, according to Dr Touroni. This may manifest in making plans to hang out, having lunch together or scheduling regular get-togethers – all gestures that demonstrate their enjoyment of your company and desire to deepen your relationship.
5.) Positive body language can reveal a lot about how someone feels towards you. Beyond words, non-verbal cues can also provide insight. According to Dr Touroni, individuals who like you tend to exhibit welcoming and optimistic body language. This can include aspects such as maintaining eye contact, leaning in when talking, and smiling often. These behaviors show interest and ease, indicating genuine enjoyment of your company. Further studies suggest that positive body language can strengthen bonds and build trust, emphasizing their positive sentiments towards you.
6.) According to Dr. Touroni, compliments and words of praise are forms of admiration and liking. When someone acknowledges your achievements, appearance, or qualities, it demonstrates their appreciation and respect for you. She also explains how giving compliments is a means of strengthening relationships through positive interactions, whether in social, professional, or romantic settings.
7.) It's not necessary for someone to reveal their bank information and social security number as a measure of liking you. What truly shows trust and closeness is when personal anecdotes are shared and one's life is opened up. Dr Touroni adds, "When someone likes you, they tend to discuss their innermost thoughts, emotions, and events with you, allowing you into their private realm. This level of vulnerability demonstrates a desire to strengthen the bond and form a deeper relationship."
The ball is now in your court.
