Did you know that Boston has been included on the list of the "rattiest" cities in the U.S.? Are you curious to find out our ranking?

According to the renowned pest control company Orkin, Boston ranked 12th on their list of 50 cities. The rankings were determined by monitoring new rodent treatments from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024. Orkin utilizes this data to gain insight into the likelihood of homeowners in each city experiencing a rodent issue.

The list below features the top 10 cities in the country known for their high rat populations:

1. Chicago, Ill.

2. Los Angeles, Calif.

3. New York, N.Y.

4. San Francisco, Calif.

5. Washington, D.C.

6. Denver, Colo.

7. Philadelphia, Pa.

8. Detroit, Mich.

9. Baltimore, Md.

10. Cleveland, Ohio

The use of rat birth control had no adverse effects on rats or other animals that may have consumed it. However, unfortunately, four bald eagles in Massachusetts died this year after ingesting rat poison used to control the rodent population. The results of the Hyde Square pilot program were provided by WISDOM Good Works, the organization responsible for its implementation. However, Tania Del Rio, the commissioner of inspectional services, contested these results. According to Boston.com, Del Rio informed the Boston City Council in October that rat complaints in Hyde Square actually increased from 82 to 154 so far in 2024.
