MIT has recently announced an extension to its undergraduate tuition-free program. Beginning in Fall 2025, the renowned institution will provide full coverage for tuition, housing, dining, fees, and allowances for books and personal expenses to eligible students from families with a household income below $100,000.

According to MIT, families earning between $100,000 and $200,000 with standard assets can anticipate a variable payment range from $0 to a maximum limit of approximately $23,970. This amount covers the complete expenses for MIT housing, dining, fees, books, and personal costs for the current academic year.

The expanded program would allow 80 percent of American households to qualify for tuition-free education. This includes all expenses for students from families with income under $75,000 and a maximum of $140,000 on a sliding scale. In a statement, MIT President Sally Kornbluth acknowledged the value of the university's rigorous education in science and engineering for both students and society. Acknowledging the financial concerns of families from all backgrounds, she expressed determination to make this transformative educational experience accessible to talented students regardless of their financial situation.
