Allston Brighton Food Pantry Thanksgiving Food Distribution Volunteer Event

The Allston-Brighton Food Pantry is offering turkeys and groceries for Thanksgiving celebrations. We are also seeking volunteers to welcome guests, assemble food baskets, distribute items, and provide support in our thrift shop.

We are looking for volunteers to assist from 8:30am to 1pm at 404 Washington Street in Brighton. In particular, we require individuals who can speak Cantonese, Russian, Spanish or Portuguese. Children and families are also welcome to participate.

Our mission at the Allston Brighton Food Pantry is to offer free nourishing food to the Allston-Brighton community. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our community, regardless of race, religion, social status, ethnicity, gender, age, or sexual orientation.

The Brighton Evangelical Congregational Church, established in 1827, founded the Allston Brighton Food Pantry in 1974. Over the past five decades, the pantry has expanded its services and community support. This includes a weekly Wednesday supper, 22 weekend grocery distributions per year, a free 24/7 community refrigerator, a partnership with Brighton Marine to serve veterans and their families, distribution of CSA farm shares through collaboration with the Allston Brighton Health Collaborative, a thrift store, and an initiative to provide free fruit and vegetable seedlings. In 2022 alone, we served groceries to over 2076 families in our Saturday distributions- reaching a total of 5183 individuals. Additionally, an average of 85 individuals receive a hot supper and extra groceries each week for an annual total of over 4000 served. Beyond providing food assistance, our pantry serves as a welcoming place for the entire community to come together and support one another.
