Description
The music accompanying the Boston Ballet's performances of P.I. Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker is both enchanting and unforgettable. As New England's second largest orchestra, the Boston Ballet Orchestra never fails to deliver a spectacular performance of the magical score under the direction of Music Director Mischa Santora.
At Boston Ballet, The Nutcracker is an outstanding production, surpassing its holiday show reputation. The program showcases several immensely intricate choreographies of classical ballet. From the grand pas de deux to the mesmerizing snow scene, and the acrobatic Russian dancers, each dancer on stage delivers a breathtaking performance. Additionally, the ballet features 83 students from the esteemed Boston Ballet School, contributing to its excitement. Overall, the performance was exceptional, with impeccable dancers, beautiful orchestral pieces, stunning sets, and charming elements like funny mice and adorable children. The athleticism displayed by the dancers was truly impressive.
This rendition of the timeless story was specifically developed for Boston Ballet in 2012 and stands as one of the most expansive productions in the Company's history, utilizing skilled artisans from various regions of the United States. Renowned designer Robert Perdziola carefully crafted over 40 drawings, which were then transformed into magnificent sets that span from soft, muted hues in Act I's party scene to vivid colors in Act II's Kingdom of the Sweets. In addition, the production showcases over 350 exquisitely detailed costumes, all designed by Perdziola.
